At the Cabin #3 - Mesa Falls, Quake Lake and Choco-Tacos

One day, some of us went to Mesa Falls.

Us in the log book. We decided to start calling Gregg Grizzle-B. As in Grizzly Bear . . . because he was sporting such a mountain-man-ish beard.

Julianne and me at Mesa Falls.

Another day, some of us kids went on a trip into the park (failed attempt at Firehole - it was closed) and ended up driving the back way to Quake Lake (Hebgen Lake).

The crew (sans Julianne who was taking the picture), sad and despondent at the closed Firehole. So sad - it was the one thing I was REALLY looking forward to doing in Yellowstone.

One of the cooler road signs I've ever seen. I think I'll make this an album title/cover. Felix Klaemont presents "Building Destruction," in stores soon.

What cute Cousins - Jess and Juls

Looking up towards the Quake Lake visitor center. Creepy stuff!

At the end of the day all I wanted was a Choco-Taco. I had been craving one the whole trip. Thank goodness for the Hungry Bear!

At the Cabin #2 - random pics

Random cabin pictures:

A rare treat: Grandpa and Grandma Walt and Joanne Buehner singing in Maori. Check out Walt rockin' that ukulele!

Just Northeast of the cabin, off in the woods, the Forest Service has a "Sewage Disposal Area." Its a huge canon that shoots everyone's "waste" into the woods. Walt calls it the "salad shooter."

Lots of naps were taken.

At the Cabin #1 - Picture Competition

As promised, I will now put up a series of posts on our time at the cabin. Julianne's grandparents have a cabin on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River in Island Park (Mack's Inn), Idaho. Here's where it is, exactly.

First, we had a photograph contest:

The Neeley Cabin

The Neeley Beach

Neeley Dock

Brenden's Best:

MOOSE!!!

Neeley Cabin!!!
Old Boat!!!
Neeley Cabin!!!

Some good pictures all around, but if you ask me, the moose and all of the exclamation points definitely tip the scales in favor of Brenden's pictures! Booyah! Exclamation points!!!

Emilia's Baby Blessing

With both families congregated in Lincoln, we blessed Emilia in church on July 13th. It was really great to have both families together for the occasion, and them making the long treks out here to visit really meant a lot to us. Thanks guys!

Emilia in her dress. This is the same dress that Julianne was blessed in!

Family pictures after the blessing

Here's who all made it (left to right)
Rachael, Gregg, Randy, Jody, Jeff, Julianne, Brenden, Emilia, Pete, Jenna, Doug, Linda, Carianne, Cora, Lorinda, Matthew

This is one of my favorite pitcures - a failed attempt at getting the 3 cousins in a nice picture. It is a perfect representation of the 3 - Jenna posing, Cora being difficult and Emmie asleep. Classic!

Our Familes come to Lincoln! They really DO love us!

Our families all came to Nebraska! We know it was to see Emilia and not us, but we like to pretend that it was for all. The whole album of pictures can be perused HERE.

1st - Pete and Linda came. Here they are with Emmie for the first time.

Next, the Thompsons all showed up and we went to the Fireworks (July 4th)

Then they left for a bit, and then came back and we went to the Omaha Zoo

THEN . . . all of the Clawsons (sans Rusty) came to visit too! Madness ensued.

Then we had Emilia's baby blessing on Sunday, July 13th . . . but I'll get to that in the next post.

Updates Forthcoming, I swear!

I apologize for the unfulfilled promise of updates. I'm currently up in Montana doing dissertation research and my internet has been a bit sketchy. In the meantime, I have managed to upload some pictures to our main photobucket site. There are 2 albums - The Cabin and The Cabin Part Deux. There will be a third one soon. Hopefully those pictures will hold you over until I get some thematic posts with pictures put up here. Patience, please.

Here's a quick teaser:

Moose right across from the dock. More on this moose later, we had a close encounter later on . . .

Updates Forthcoming

Hola all. For the last week or so, Julianne and I have been relaxing with family at the Buehner cabin in Mack's Inn (Island Park, Idaho) on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River. Yesterday she flew down to AZ to be with family was I came up to Montana/Alberta for a multi-week dissertation research trip. Dusty archives, here I come!

Since the archives close for the evenings, I should have some free time to post pictures and stuff from the trip and from Emilia's baby blessing.

4th of July with the Fam

Pete, Linda, Lorinda, Matthew, Jenna and Cora all arrived to celebrate the 4th of July with us. We went to the fireworks at Oak Lake and had a great time. Jenna had made all of us glow in the dark jewelry - very fashionable. She gave Julianne the prettiest necklace - it resembled the flux-capacitor. I got a necklace too, but it lacked any time-traveling capabilities.

Here are some other new pics of the little munchkin.

Goodbye Johnsons

Farewell Johnsons!

One of the saddest days we've had in a long time.

Things we will miss about the Johnsons:
  1. Andrea doing flash-dance in public to embarress Jake
  2. Jake's no arm-swinging Napoleon run
  3. Seersucker pants and bow ties
  4. Not being the oldest of our friends
  5. The 5" TV screen
  6. Sour Patch Kids and Swedish Fish and Aquatic Friends
  7. Orange board-shorts and white t-shirts
  8. Jake making Andrea drive everywhere
